Lufthansa Cargo and Cathay Pacific expand their joint venture

Since the signing of the cooperation deal, Lufthansa Cargo and Cathay Pacific have collaborated on network planning and subsequently working on IT and service enhancements.

Lufthansa Cargo and Cathay Pacific’s cargo division have expanded their joint business arrangement by covering eastbound shipments from Europe to Hong Kong. Under the joint business agreement (JBA) between both the cargo companies, Hong Kong has been directly connected to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Dublin, Brussels, Zurich, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Manchester, Rome, Paris and London (Gatwick and Heathrow airports).

According to the press release by Lufthansa Cargo, customers can book the road feeder services and the belly space of passenger aircraft of both the partners, besides the capacity offered by their dedicated fleet of cargo aircraft.  

The joint handling services have been introduced by both the companies in Frankfurt and Hong Kong in early 2017 and late 2016 respectively, since then customers have been enjoying facility of having one single location for import delivery and export drop-off.

Since the signing of the cooperation deal, Lufthansa Cargo and Cathay Pacific have collaborated on network planning and subsequently working on IT and service enhancements.

Ronald Lam, Director Commercial and Cargo, Cathay Pacific, said that the cooperation with Lufthansa has touched an exciting new phase benefitting to their customers in Europe and provide strength to one of the great trade lanes of the world.

Peter Gerber, Chairman and Chief Executive, Lufthansa Cargo stated that the company is delighted to offer full advantage of our partnership to their joint customers. This is a strong foundation for a successful long-term cooperation, he further added.

Since 2017, customers have been able to book express and general cargo on all Lufthansa and Cathay Pacific flights from Hong Kong to Europe. There are 280 direct flights, covering 15 airports after the commencement of Hong Kong-bound shipments in the joint network of the carriers per week.
