MakeMyTrip reports 150% surge in super-luxury, premium hotel bookings
Indian online travel company MakeMyTrip recently revealed that its bookings for premium and super luxury hotels have increased by a whopping 150% during the pandemic. The company claimed that more Indians are now traveling to these super-luxury and premium properties given the increasing demand for elite travel experiences.
According to the company reports, around one in three Indians searched and booked a luxury or premium hotel during the pandemic. The average room cost in these hotels is around USD 200.
Confirming this, Vipul Prakash, the company’s Chief Operating Officer, stated that the increasing number of Indians traveling to these destinations has accelerated the demand for luxury and super-premium hotels. He added that non-metro areas have also started to consider these properties as rejuvenating options.
Following this, Prakash further cited that MakeMyTrip bookings during the pandemic were comparatively 90% and 40% higher than the bookings recorded during the pandemic’s first wave and second wave respectively. As a result, the company’s luxury hotel bookings were almost 150% higher compared to the pre-pandemic period.
It is worth mentioning that the increase in booking numbers is primarily driven by tier 2 and tier 3 market areas, such as Coorg, Goa, and Mumbai. Observing the demand for luxury and super-premium hotels, the company has now launched its new collection of thematic properties to capitalize on the current trends.
Through the launch of a new platform known as Luxe Selection, the company now aims to provide a comprehensive view of luxury properties across the country. This will allow Indian travelers to find their ideal hotel according to their needs and requirement.
In this context, MakeMyTrip’s Chief Business Officer, Abhishek Logani, stated that the company’s new platform will allow travelers to book various types of packages, such as airport transfers, room upgrades, and spa services are few options to note. These packages will be customized to meet each customer’s needs accordingly.
