Samsung planning to launch new foldable phones in August this year

According to recent tech reports, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd is slated to unveil its range of new foldable phones via an online event that will be held on its official website on August 10.

The event titled ‘Unfold Your World,’ will focus on promoting Samsung’s latest Z series, including the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, in addition to its range of wireless earphones Galaxy Buds, and its smartwatch Galaxy Watch.

Interestingly, Samsung Electronics was the first multinational conglomerate to have introduced a foldable phone in the tech sphere in 2019. At present, its share in the overall industry landscape is at a staggering 85%. 

Since 2021, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer has successfully spearheaded two separate launch events for its premium smartphone ranges which includes the launch of the S series in the first half and the foldable Z series in the latter half of the year.

Additional citations indicate that both the phones are expected to showcase significant reductions in their weight and size, along with efforts to focus on enhancing the durability of the hinges. Particularly, the Z flip series is estimated to boast of a huge outside display with extended battery life.

Notably, the phones will be launched with a dual sim advantage that is expected to be a breather for a major chunk of the population that carries two phones - one for personal and another for business purposes.

Despite the positive outlook, the market still has a long way to go in terms of its profit margins, accounting for only 1% of global smartphone sales in recent times. However, it is poised to be a fast-growing industry, as its delivery volume increased fourfold from 2 million units in 2020 to 8 million units in 2021.

Speaking of the current scenario, Samsung’s shipments are expected to double this year, with the sale of an estimated 12.5 million units by the end of 2022.
