Swisscom to install Nokia FastMile 5G Receivers in Switzerland
Nokia, the leading Finnish telecommunications giant, has reportedly announced that Swisscom, a renowned Swiss telecommunications firm, would install Nokia FastMile 5G Receivers across rural areas of Switzerland to provide high speed broadband services.
As part of the deal, the Finnish telecom giant will be the exclusive 5G FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) supplier for Swisscom. The solution would help the Swiss company to effectively meet the growing demand for broadband services in the nation.
Nokia’s FastMile 5G Receiver integrates the best of both outdoor and indoor FWA solutions, allowing Swisscom to deploy a single device throughout the network. Nokia designed the Receiver to be simple enough that even the end user can install it. These receivers can be used indoors, on a desk-top in conditions where the signal strengths are strong or a window, and outdoors, on a wall or a window if the indoor signal strength is weak.
A smartphone app helps the user with the 5G Receiver’s installation process and also assists in choosing the location that has the best radio reception. Nokia’s 5G Receiver provides better reliability and performance, via extensive carrier aggregation between 5G and 4G bands.
Head of Phones, Gateways, and other Devices in Swisscom, Marcel Burgherr stated that the company selected Nokia as its 5G fixed wireless access device provider. The 5G solution would help the company bring high speed internet to its business and residential customers spread across the country’s rural areas.
President of Fixed Networks, Nokia, Sandra Motley stated that 5G fixed wireless access is an ideal device for fiber-to-the-home networks. Receivers can efficiently provide ultra-fast speed internet across areas that are under served or unserved by fiber.
Motley further added that with the integrated experience of Swisscom and Nokia, the companies were able to create an effective and innovative solution. The company is thrilled to collaborate with Swisscom for its broadband vision using 5G FWA.
