T-Mobile in talks with authorities to close Sprint merger by 2020

T-Mobile is globally known for its robust customer support and innovative offerings. The company is currently connecting 99% of Americans with its LTE network and is planning to expand its 5G network all over the nation.

However, recently the company made it to headlines when it revealed gaining more than 1.7 million customers in its Q3, making it the 26th consecutive quarter that had over 1 million net additions. At the current moment, T-Mobile has a cumulative of 84.2 million customers, which takes it one step closer to rivals Verizon and AT&T.

Reportedly, the wireless carrier had generated $11.1 billion in total revenue, a figure that is very much close to the forecasted revenue by Wall Street analysts. However, the firm made a profit of $870 million, which is 9 percent more than analysts expectation. T-Mobile also hopes to expedite its merger with Sprint, bringing it closer to early 2020.

Speaking on which, John Legere, CEO, T-Mobile, said that their firm is in talks with state attorneys general, insisting them to settle the remaining legal complications that are restricting the finalization of Sprint merger. Moreover, T-Mobile has laid out a detailed integration plan, that includes a strategy to initiate Sprint’s 2.5 GHz wireless spectrum.

Recently, The Federal Communications Commission also joined the U.S. DOJ (Department of Justice) in approving the merger, which was prior announced in April 2018.

Sources cite that the merger would allow T-Mobile to aggressively compete against AT&T and Verizon in the developing 5G wireless market. Also, in a bid to further develop its market presence, T-Mobile has come up with a new plan, known as the Magenta First Responder, which is tailored to give discounts to early users and their families.

Apparently, the plan would provide a 50% discount to local and state law enforcement officers, EMS personnel and firefighters. Moreover, the discounted plan would still comprise of all features from regular Magenta including 3GB high-speed mobile hotspot and a Netflix Basic subscription plan.
